Town of Natick
Charter and By-Law Review Committee
13 East Central Street
Natick, MA 01760

Meeting, March 22, 2001

Present:  Linda Wollschlager, Raphael Herz, Jeffrey Phillips, Paul Connolly

Absent:  Philip Verzani

Others present:  Jay Ball, Susan Salamoff, Philip Maddocks

The meeting was called to order by the chair at 7:08 PM in the School Committee Meeting Room, Third Floor, Town Hall.

Mr. Herz reviewed the procedures for the public hearing and then opened the public hearing. Ms. Salamoff provided some comments, and Mr. Ball made some suggestions that the Board of Selectmen had received (the Board did not take a position on these suggestions). The committee made note of all comments and suggestions, and committee members asked questions to obtain additional information. The suggestions will be added to the list on the committee's web site. Mr. Herz closed the public hearing.

Mr. Phillips reported on the press packets, which Ms. Wollschlager had produced. Other members expressed appreciation for the superior product. Mr. Phillips had made contact with the Boston Globe West Weekly (Alison Murray), MetroWest Daily News (Jennifer Rosinski), Natick Bulletin (Heather Davis), and Natick Cable (John MacGillivray).

The committee decided that there will be no more public hearings after the hearing scheduled for April 5. Nevertheless, there will be some time for specific public input on items that the committee is proposing as suggestions for Town Meeting consideration.

Ms. Wollschlager noted that some more contacts have been obtained after her personal follow-up. She continues to update the list on the web site of possible areas for change under consideration by the committee.

The committee scheduled a meeting for Wednesday, April 18. It will be held in the School Department Training Room at 7:00 PM.

Minutes of the March 8 meeting were approved as written.

Committee members reported on their review of the Charter, Articles 6 and 7.

The meeting adjourned at 9:45 PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Paul E. Connolly
